Customers of Ross-Simons are Exposed

Ross-Simons cardholder’s confidential financial information are affected by this breach.

Here is what is known:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Ross-Simons, which sells specialty merchandise through retail stores and more than 60 million catalogs each year, late on Tuesday said a security breach could allow unauthorized access to its customers’ confidential financial information.

The company — whose products includes jewelry, gifts and home decorative merchandise — said the data breach has potential to harm individuals who had applied for its private label credit card.

Although the security snafu has been identified and corrected and the matter is under investigation, Ross-Simons said it may have exposed the private label credit card numbers and other personal information of those that had applied for the cards.

Laptop Stolen Contained Data of 196,000 HP Employees

The theft occurred roughly a month ago on 3/15, during an offsite business meeting.
A Fidelity employee had loaded his company laptop with a database of personal financial data of 196,000 participants in HP sponsored retirement plans managed by Fidelity. This puts current and former HP employees
at risk of identity fraud.

MARCH 23, 2006 (COMPUTERWORLD) - Fidelity Investments today confirmed that a laptop containing confidential information on more than 196,000 current and former employees at Hewlett-Packard Co. and its acquisitions was recently stolen from the firm the theft may have exposed information such as the names, Social Security numbers and compensation details for the workers.
