Navy Personnel Data Found on Web Site

A public website has exposed personal information pertaining to approximately 28,000 active duty naval personnel.  The information was stored on five spreadsheet which has since been removed from the site.

The Navy found personal data, including social security numbers, for approximately 28,000 active duty sailors and their family displayed on a civilian Web site earlier this month.

According to a Navy press release, the Chief of Naval Personnel was notified June 22 of the posting that included five spreadsheets that contained names, birth dates and social security numbers of active-duty sailors.
