Lancaster General Hospital Doctors’ Personal Information Exposed

A personal computer was stolen from a Lancaster General Hospital (LGH) office on June 10th. Only doctor’s information was stored on the computer. It is believed the equipment was the primary target of the burglary and not the data. Nevertheless, hospital administrators have sent out notification letters to the doctors. The letter instructs physicians to watch their financial accounts and credit card activities for any signs of identity theft.

The letter noted that a “free-standing PC” was stolen from the office, which contained files listing doctors’ practice addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers, used “to verify accreditations and educational backgrounds as part of the credentialing process.”

A copy of the notification letter can be seen here.

I need you to be aware of an my experience to your ER on April 11th 2007. I came in with very high blood pressure and rapid heart beat. I am 27 years old with no health problems. I thought I was having an allergic reaction to my medication. I broke out in a rash on my chest and my blood pressure spiked to 160/90. I was taking medication for cervicitis. When I asked my doctor if he thought I was having an allergic reaction he said to me in front of the nurse and my husband that I was being treated for GONORRHEA. I was never so insulted in my life. After I explained to the doctor how i got this, and had my family DR. look at me and a specialist, they both told me that I had a reaction to my diaphragm. He kept insulting me and telling me that the statistics say the 99% of people on this medication have GONORRHEA and if i did not take care of this it could make me sterile. I did not wait 7 hours in the ER to here insult after insult. I would never come back to your ER if that is how your staff treats people. He owes me and my husband a personal apology wants he gets the results back and realizes how wrong he was. I did not go to medical school but i do know that different medications are prescribed for different things and just because you are taking something does not mean you assume and judge someone before examining them. I thought you go to the hospital to feel better and I left feeling 10 times worse. If I was not having a panic attack when I came in I was having one when I left. My gynecologist was appalled when I told her what happened and reassured me that i did not have GONORRHEA. She encouraged me to write this letter. I am not sure of the Drs full name all I know is that his first name was John but if you look it up you can give him a copy of this. I have no respect for him and his manners. I work for a very respectfull Dr and when I told him what happened he could not belive the way he addressed the matter to me. I am just so upset with the care that I recieved and needed to address this matter. I will be sending a letter to the hosptial human resorce when I get my EOB and it has the name of the Dr. I could not wait to express my anger.
