A disk containing the names, birth dates and Social Security numbers of 2.9 million Medicaid and children’s health care recipients is missing, Georgia health officials said Tuesday.

The state said the security breach was reported by Affiliated Computer Services, a private vendor. ACS did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment.

40k Teachers Exposed to Identity Theft

For the second time in six months, Chicago Public Schools will pay for credit protection for current and former employees whose personal information was either stolen or released accidentally.

The school system said it will pay for one year of credit protection for the 40,000 employees whose names and Social Security numbers were on two laptop computers stolen from school headquarters Friday.

The University of California at San Francisco began notifying students, teachers, and staff that their names, Social Security numbers, and bank account numbers may have been accessed during a security breach.

TJX Data Theft is the Largest Hack Ever

I am never shopping at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls ever again.

A hacker or hackers stole data from at least 45.7 million credit and debit cards of shoppers at off-price retailers including T.J. Maxx and Marshalls in a case believed to be the largest such breach of consumer information.

For the first time since disclosing the theft more than two months ago, the parent company of nearly 2,500 discount stores put a number on how much card data was compromised — and it’s a number TJX Cos. acknowledges could go still higher.

This breach has already been tied to several identity theft crimes after a ring of thieves were arrest in Florida.

Fort Monroe Employees Exposed

A laptop computer containing the names, Social Security numbers and payroll information for as many as 16,000 civilian employees here was stolen from an employee’s personal vehicle, officials said Monday.

The computer was password protected and did not contain bank account or bank routing information, Army officials said. The employees all work at the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, which has its headquarters at Fort Monroe.

Colorado Springs Utilities Customer Info Stolen

Former employee arrested in ID theft scheme.

Colorado Springs Utilities says it’s not sure how many customers’ personal info may have been compromised following the recent arrest of a former employee in Arizona. 26-year-old former staff engineer Elizabeth Bischoff was arrested Wednesday, March 14 in Scottsdale, Arizona after trying to purchase a more-than-$90,000 car with a fake ID and stolen credit card, according to Scottsdale police.
